Mid-Century Modern Coffee Table — Study in Form, Function, and Material

This coffee table was built from established plans as part of an ongoing study into proportion, joinery, and the relationship between design and material. While the original design served as a framework, the creative process centered on interpreting form through craft — exploring how variations in hardwood, grain, and finish influence the final composition.
Constructed entirely by hand from locally sourced hardwood, the table reflects my approach to woodworking as both technical discipline and artistic practice. The work is less about invention than interpretation — an exercise in understanding design language through making.
Each project like this informs my own design vocabulary, helping me refine how structure, line, and surface come together to create balance and presence in functional art.
