Mid-Century Modern Lounge Chair — Study Inspired by the Z-Chair

This lounge chair was inspired by the iconic Z-Chair — an exploration of its distinctive geometry, balance, and joinery. Rather than reproducing the original, the project focused on understanding its structural logic and translating it through my own process, using locally sourced beech and hand-shaped elements.

The making of this piece became an exercise in design interpretation: examining how angles, thicknesses, and tactile surfaces influence visual lightness and comfort. Built entirely by hand, it reflects my interest in mid-century forms not as blueprints to copy, but as foundations for studying proportion, structure, and the expressive potential of wood.

The result is both homage and investigation — a way of engaging directly with design history to inform my own evolving language as a maker.
